The Maryborough & District Triathlon Club conducted Race 5 of its 2009/10 Summer Series on Wednesday 24th February 2010 from the Maryborough Outdoor Pool, its inaugural Twilight Triathlon, and the event was hailed an outstanding success.

The event was a reverse triathlon involving a 2km run, 6km ride, and a 200m swim.  Nearly thirty (30) triathletes participated in the event, which created some exceptional times and competition amongst the group.

In the Open Male Category the times were very close between the top four triathletes with less than a minute separating this group throughout the race.  It was however top cyclist and young gun triathlete Clancy Long who finished in first place in an outstanding time of 18:06.  In second place was Marong triathlete Ashley Robertson (18:22), Ned Volk in third place (18:42), and Adam Lowery (19:03) in fourth place.

In the Open Female Category it was Jo Butler who produced an exceptional race to finish in first place in the very strong time of 20:54.  Georgia Reid also produced a very strong performance to finish in second place in a time of 24:56, and Jacki Dellavedova (26:46) had a great race to take third place.

In the U16 Male Category Ty Stewart continued his great form from the 2010 Vision Super Central Goldfields Reverse Triathlon to take first place in the great time of 19:26.  Riley Herd was not far behind Ty however and finished in second place in a time of 20:24, and in third place was up-and-coming triathlete Gerard Fitzgibbon in the strong time of 21:40.

Caitlin Butler enjoyed the course as well, and after registering the very strong time of 23:21, finished in first place in the U16 Female Category.  Little separated the Leech sisters, Romani and Jsanna, throughout the entire race, but it was Romani who produced the slightly stronger performance on the day to take second place (24:35) from Jsanna (24:56) in great performances from both young triathletes. 

In the 50+ Male Category it was Mike Egan who posted a blistering time of 19:05 to take first place, and Jenny Barras also excelled in all aspects of the event to win the 50+ Female Category in the very strong time of 21:50.

In the Team Category little separated the Park and Taylor teams throughout the entire race but it was the Park Team who produced the slightly stronger performance on the day to register the winning time of 21:10 with the Taylor Team in second place in a time of 21:46.

The final race of the 2009/10 Maryborough & District Triathlon Club Inc. Summer Championship Series will be held on Sunday 7th March 2010 from the Maryborough Outdoor Pool with registrations at 9am, event start time 9.30am.  The event will be a traditional triathlon with short and long courses, and a team category to cater for all levels of triathlete.  All current members and individuals interested trying the sport of triathlon are invited to come along and enjoy the final triathlon for the 2009/2010 season.
